Man United are facing Brighton on Saturday and we sat down to talk with the former Man United player Paul Parker, who shared his thoughts and expectations for the game, just as he makes a remarkable claim about key figures at Brighton that he could see at Man United.
Man United lost 3-1 to Arsenal before the international break, which leaves The Red Devils with two wins and two losses after the first four games of this Premier League season.
Saturday, they are facing Brighton who has been in a marvellous form this season and except for one loss against West Ham, The Seagulls have kept impressing after their amazing season last year.
We talked to Paul Parker, who is looking forward to the game and shares his thoughts on which Brighton personnel he potentially could see at Man United.
Over the years, Man United have been used to being the favourites whenever they have faced Brighton but things might have turned around now, as Parker doesn´t necessarily want to make Man United the favourites, however, he says that he expects them to win the game.
“I think you should always expect Man United to win against Brighton, especially when they are playing at Old Trafford. Man United should always beat Brighton, that’s how it is.”
“But to make Man United the favourites is a different thing because everything is going so well for Brighton.”
“The only excuse everyone has for Brighton is that they are playing European football. But they are a good side who can trouble any team in the world right now.”
Recently, Paul Parker was out with a bold statement, where he claimed that Rasmus Hojlund needs to start the game against Brighton, if Erik ten Hag wants to avoid all the fans wanting him to get sacked.
Now, he once again makes it very clear that the Dutchman has some tough team selections to do.
“Erik ten Hag has some tough team selections to do now because he has a lot of choices in that midfield area.”
“Of course, Bruno needs to play, Casemiro needs to play and he has to give Amrabat a starter. That leaves out Mount who allegedly is ready to play out of the team and then Eriksen is there as well, who could argue he should be in the starting lineup.”
“I think Man United has to score the first goal in this match if they want to win it. The negativity will come out right away at Old Trafford if Brighton scores the first goal.”
On one hand, Parker thinks that Brighton is a good fixture to start off with after the international break as the players can prove themselves against a very good side but on the other hand, Parker says that Brighton looks like Man United´s bogey side.
“Man United have lost four out of the last five games to Brighton and the only game that Man United managed to win was after penalties. Brighton won 4-0 against Man United in the beginning of last season and even before that they played a match where they outplayed Man United but Lewis Dunk got sent off quite harshly.”
“I think we can say that Brighton has become quite a bogey side for Man United. But it’s a good fixture for Man United right now because it really gives the team a good opportunity to prove themselves.”
Brighton is well known for their ability to function as a unit, however, The Seagulls also have some very interesting individual players in their squad, and we asked Parker if he could see any players at Man United.
“I would definitely take Mitoma from Brighton and put him straight into Man United’s starting lineup. He is a fantastic player in the wide area. I’m sure that people would ask me the question if I would put him at the right wing and Rashford on the left.”
“But I would have him in there in front of Rashford to be perfectly honest. He gives fullbacks more problems with his pace and he is just even better this season than he was last season.”
“I would also take Estupinan. He is a very, very good left back and he is very strong. He could be esteemed as a British fullback because of the way he is built. He is so powerful but he also has great technique when he gets into the final third as well.”
“He can score goals and make assists. He could do a very good job at Man United.”
“I would actually also like Julio Enciso. He is out injured right now but he is a very good player.”
De Zerbi could manage Man United in the future
Roberto De Zerbi has done a marvellous job since taking over for Graham Potter at Brighton and according to Parker, the Italian could be a potential future manager for Man United, however, he is not ready to sack Erik ten Hag.
“I can’t come out and say that I just want to sack Erik ten Hag but I can certainly see him as a future Man United coach. He is a rarity and there is something different about him.”
“Of course, it worries me a bit that Brighton seems to be a very systematic team. We saw that Graham Potter didn’t have the best time of his life at Chelsea. So, could De Zerbi manage Man United? I think he can. He is completely different from Graham Potter.”
“I like Potter but De Zerbi has this fire in his belly. He does say what he feels and he manages his players differently from Potter who does not show the same emotions on the touchline as De Zerbi does.”
