Welcome to our Betfred review. The UK-based bookmaker is well known in sports betting and online gambling circles, and we have cast our eye over its various markets, bonus offers and services to measure how it stacks up against its competitors and form our own Betfred opinion.

The table below details our ratings for a variety of Betfred products and services, ranking each from 1 to 5, with 5 being the strongest mark.

  • Welcome offer sportsbook

Welcome offer for new sports and casino customers

The Betfred welcome sports offer ensure that players get up to £30 in free bets and 30 free spins if they bet £10. The free bets offer is valid on any sports market within 7 days. A drawback of this part of the offer is that the bonus funds can take up to 48 hours to arrive to the customer’s account, which is dissimilar to promotions from other bookmakers, who tend to deposit bonus funds immediately.

  • Welcome offer Casino

Stake £10, Get 50 free spins

Another great Betfred offer provides new customers a casino bonus of 50 free spins on a stake of at least £10. The great news is that players don’t need to meet any wagering requirements to get the free spins.

The no-wager aspect of the promotion is indeed enticing, yet the sum of the bonus in both instances is modest.

  • Betting Markets

While the amount of sports to bet on via Betfred is large, the range of markets per each sport is slightly more limited when compared to major competitors such William Hill, Ladbrokes and Bet365.

Sports that bettors can place wagers on are:

    • Horse Racing
    • Football
    • Tennis
    • American Football
    • Australian Rules Football
    • Baseball
    • Basketball
    • Boxing
    • Cricket
    • Cycling
    • Darts
    • eSports
    • Gaelic Football
    • Golf
    • Greyhounds
    • Handball
    • Ice Hockey
    • Motor Sports
    • Pool
    • Rugby League
    • Rugby Union
    • Snooker
    • UFC / MMA
    • Winter Sports

Non-sport wagers can also be placed on Lottery Specials, TV Shows / Specials and Politics.

While the overall selection is impressive, and standard markets such as match result, points spreads and line betting are plentiful, in conducting this Betfred review we found the depth and number of betting options were lower than at other leading bookmakers.

  • Odds

While its global betting markets offering needs improving, Betfred do offer competitive odds in head-to-head markets.

At the time of writing this Betfred opinion piece, the company’s odds for the Washington Redskins v Carolina Panthers NFL clash on 19th December, (3/10 Washington, 5/2 Carolina) stacked up better than the likes of bet365 and PaddyPower, and were approximately even with the majority of other competitors.

Only William Hill and Ladbrokes offered better head-to-head odds for this particular match-up.

It was the same story with the Premier League encounter between Everton and Liverpool; in that case only Betfair and Bet365 offered notable improvements on odds for this match.

As for futures markets, such as the outright Premier League and NBA winner, the company once again provides relative odds for the leading teams, and even offered some extra value compared to other bookmakers on some of the long-shot betting options.

  • Mobile App

Betfred’s sports betting app ticks the right boxes in terms of accessibility – it is available on Android, iOS and Windows Phone, as well as Apple Watch, ensuring that no matter their mobile device, sports bettors can access the company’s wide range of sports markets.

The app, which plays a big role in shaping our positive Betfred opinion, has an easy-to-navigate interface that leads to seamless, quick and intuitive navigation. While the app has a modest ranking on the App Store, with some users claiming previous versions were better, there were no obvious defects in functionality when conducting this Betfred review.

In total the bookie has eight applications to its name, so if the sports betting one goes well, you might fancy downloading one of the others too. These include Bingo, Lotto, Casino, Virtual and more.

If you want more information about the app, visit our article on the Betfred mobile app.

  • Payment Methods

On top of credit and debit card payments, a wide variety of payment options are offered. These include Neteller, Skrill, Ukash, PayPal and bank transfer. The same six payment methods apply for withdrawals.

There are no fees for any withdrawals, and funds reach the customer in under 48 hours in nearly all cases. Only credit and debit card withdrawals incur a delay, taking 3-5 business days. Additionally, the minimum deposit amounts are fair, as are the maximum withdrawals. The exact figures are outlined below:

Payment Method Minimum Deposit Maximum Withdrawal
     Credit / Debit card  £5 £20,000
    Neteller  £5 £15,000
    Skrill  £5  £8,000
     Ukash  £5  £250
     PayPal  £5  £15,000
Bank transfer No limit  No limit

There are no charges for credit / debit card deposits, while one free deposit per day is allowed for Neteller, PayPal, Ukash and Skrill.

Given the proliferation of bookmakers that offer Bitcoin deposit and withdrawal methods, this is also a payment method Betfred should look to provide in the near future.

  • Customer Care

The 24/7 live chat is the strongest aspect of Betfred’s customer service offering. Customers can contact the company through two separate phone numbers: within the UK on 0800 028 7747 and outside on +44 (0) 01925 907500

There are also dedicated emails for you to reach out with specific queries.

    Support: support@betfred.com
    Web & Mobile Enquiries: technical@betfred.com
    Account Assistance: accounts@betfred.com
    Free Bets: freebetqueries@betfred.com

Additionally, a strong FAQ section addressing the top inquires is also very helpful.

Customer service via all of these mediums is prompt and polite, however is only available in English.

  • Live Streaming

Betfred customers can tune into various football leagues, tennis, basketball, greyhound racing and a host of other sports from around the world using the company’s Watch Live Free streaming service.

Customers must be logged into their accounts to stream any sports. Live streaming UK and Irish horse racing requires a bet of £1 on any race in order to do so, which runs in line with other leading UK bookmakers.

Our Verdict

A wide range of sports to bet on, competitive odds and wide accessibility across various mobile devices are all strong points that reaffirm Betfred’s standing as key player in the UK sports betting market. Furthermore, a strong customer service offering, live streaming options and fair deposit and withdrawal rules also leads to a positive Betfred opinion.

However, while conducting this Betfred review felt that the bonus offer was convoluted, particularly for casino games, while the range of betting markets for each sport also needs improvement in order to match that of its rivals.

What We Like

  • Wide range of sports to bet on
  •  Competitive odds
  • iOS, Android and Windows Phone friendly

What We Don’t Like

  • Uninspiring welcome bonus offers
  • Lack of depth in betting markets
